Food for the Future North Yorkshire

Working together to create a healthier, more sustainable and more resilient food system.

← Back to Live Well

Food connects almost every part of our lives. It influences our health and wellbeing, supports local businesses and communities, and plays an important role in protecting the environment. Food for the Future North Yorkshire is a shared framework for action that brings together partners from across North Yorkshire to create a healthier, more sustainable and more resilient food system.

Developed through collaboration between public sector organisations, businesses, farmers, researchers, voluntary and community organisations and local communities, the framework promotes a whole-system approach to food. It recognises that improving health, supporting the local economy and protecting the environment are closely connected and that lasting change can only be achieved by working together.

Our vision

We want North Yorkshire to be a place where everyone can access healthy, affordable and sustainable food, regardless of where they live. By supporting local food production, strengthening supply chains, reducing food waste and helping people make informed food choices, we can create a food system that benefits people, places and the planet.

Priority areas for action

  • Securing nutritious and affordable food for all
  • Supporting healthy and sustainable food choices
  • Strengthening local food economies and supply chains
  • Reducing food waste
  • Supporting environmental sustainability and climate resilience
