Update letter from co-chairs of Hambleton and Richmondshire local area group - June 2021

Dear friends

This is a letter from Julie and Thelma. We are the co-chairs of the Hambleton and Richmondshire Local Area Group.

This letter is to help us stay in touch and to let you know what we have been doing.

Kim from KeyRing has been working hard to keep in contact with self-advocates to make sure everyone is OK. She is always there to help if anyone needs any support.

We continue to enjoy our weekly online quizzes. There have also been lots of self-advocacy meetings too. These help us keep in touch with each other and are also fun.

Karen retires

In May we said goodbye to Karen who has retired from her job as Self Advocacy manager at KeyRing. She has been a wonderful supporter of self-advocates and she will be missed by everyone. We wish her well.

Learning Disability England

Learning Disability England held a conference. It was online because of Coronavirus.

Dean went to the LDE conference online, we signed up for different sessions and learned lots about Human Rights.

Day Services

It is good that many Self Advocates are getting back to day services. They are enjoying being back very much.

This helps us feel that things are starting to get back to normal.

Self Advocacy Celebration

Because of Corona virus we cannot have the celebration event we planned.  Self Advocates decided to make a video and Julie and Dean helped with it. The video reminds us about all that Self advocates have achieved.

A podcast has also been made by self-advocates and you can listen to the different episodes by following this link:

Coronavirus Vaccine

Lots of people have now had their vaccines. This is will help keep everyone safe.

There is lots of useful information about the vaccine on the Keep Safe website https://www.keepsafe.org.uk/

If you do not have the internet, you can ask Kim for information.

NY Partnership Board

The Partnership Board have not been able to meet face to face but have been working hard.

NYLDPB have been working hard on their annual report. The annual report will tell us what the group has been doing over the past year. Once it is finished it will be put on the NYLDPB website page.

If you have any questions about anything in this letter contact

Kim at Keyring kimberley.sanders@keyring.org

Or Caroline Ferguson at North Yorkshire County Council caroline.ferguson@northyorks.gov.uk

Sadly, we do not know when we will be able to meet together again in 2021. We will listen to the Government and follow advice so that everyone can stay safe

Hopefully it won’t be too long. Take care and stay safe!
