Community engagement agreements and structures

Multicoloured hands Public service organisations in North Yorkshire, such as local councils, police, fire, and health, are committed to improving the quality of services, making better use of resources and more effectively meeting the needs of communities.

Working with the voluntary and community sector and communities themselves, we have agreed how we will do this, including holding joint meetings and sharing information where that is useful and appropriate.

Our principles for joint working include:

  • Ensuring that engaging with communities is a mainstream activity
  • Developing shared engagement meetings
  • Developing shared profiling and mapping
  • Sharing and co-ordinating information
  • Supporting community development and empowerment
  • Ensuring better engagement with voluntary and community organisations
  • Making effective use of community representatives including councillors

We are also working together to ensure the quality of engagement is improved.

Our joint framework for community engagement and neighbourhood management 'Working together with communities' gives more detail.
